Day 2
Day 2 of Coachella welcomed acts like Arcade Fire, the Scissor Sisters, Erykah Badu, and Raphael Saadiq. Concert goers came ready to chill in straw hats and breezy maxi dresses. Temperatures climbed to 98 degrees, so bathing suits and shorts were a must!

Concert Goers Ready to Party in the Desert
Coachella 2011 began with a bang on Friday with performances by Sleigh Bells, the Black Keys, Chemical Brothers, and Ms. Lauryn Hill. Concert goers came ready to party in the desert in bandeau tops, short skirts, breezy shorts, and flat, comfortable sandals. To make sure they didn’t get lost in the crowd, some wore striped shirts (as a play off the lovable, frequently lost cartoon character, Where’s Waldo). But most simply chose to shine in neon colors, uplifted by turquoise jewelry, floppy hats, and electric smiles.

Day 1
We checked into our place in Palm Springs. The women who decorated this place is a little eccentric. I didn’t take a photo of the life size knight in armor or the ceramic legs sticking out of the dirt. But here’s her cactus.
My friend Bryan started off our morning with the appropriate music. Crystal Castles, Boy Noize, and Cut Copy were playing that night. H&M was so nice to provide me with a driver for the weekend. So this is Moe. He’s awesome.
He took us to the Ace Hotel where we hung out for a few hours before heading to the festival.
Day 1 was amazing. The shows were great.
Although I do think it’s possible to replace some of the neon lights with something like a giant antenna for my cell phone reception. You can sell ads on it or something idk. Just a thought. Until the next day Coachella!

Perfect Girls Weekend
Coachella is always a great excuse for a girls weekend. A tip for those who want to drive down. Carpool and you will save so much gas money. We struck gold when we found XXXtra Hot Flaming Cheetos along the way. Definitely a gas station must have – why can’t I ever find this anywhere??
My friends Emily, Annabel, and Joanna and I made a pit stop to Los Angeles. It’s a great idea if you are the type to get a bit restless. A pit stop in LA for one night rejuvenated us and got us ready for the long weekend ahead. Sushi takeout, hanging out at a well known record producer’s house (his Wiki page is much longer than mine which is… nonexistent), and an impromptu tour of a Lloyd Wright house concluded our stay. On to the festival.

Our Favorite Festival Style, Day One

We’ve been roaming the festival grounds here at Coachella — hitting the tents, lining up for our favorite bands, and of course, combing the crowds for the best-dressed street stylers. From the boho-chic to the desert-cool, we’ve rounded up our 20 favorite festival looks — and keep in mind, this is just day one. Click through and stay tuned, there’s more Coachella fun all weekend long!
My top 3 bands to see
Crystal Castles – They were probably the first band I got into post-college. Listen to their song “Not in Love” feat. Robert Smith of The Cure.
Duran Duran – “Come Undone” has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. If you don’t love Duran Duran, you don’t love music.
Death From Above 1979 (reunion) – DBA hasn’t played a show in five years. But this was the music I grew up on. I think everyone I know is stoked for this.

Line up for Coachella
The line up for Coachella is guaranteed to make it one of the best concerts of the year! I love hip-hop and R&B, and it’s so amazing that such a good selection of artists will perform this season.
On Friday, I can’t wait to dance to Cee-Lo and listen to the soothing sounds of the inimitable Ms. Lauryn Hill. I’ve been a fan of Lauryn since she debuted her celebrated The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill album in 1998, and can’t wait to see how she’s evolved as an artist and performer.
On Saturday I’ll be first in line for Erykah Badu and Raphael Saadiq; on Sunday I’m super juiced to see Kanye West, Nas, Wiz Khalifa, and Ryan Leslie.
It’s guaranteed to be a fun, soul quaking, hip shaking time.

What to wear on the plane to Coachella
Puzzled as to what to wear on the plane to Coachella? Opt for subtle simplicity in an illustrated t-shirt with skinny jeans and flat boots, uplifted by a funky scarf and colorful bag. Need more room to breathe? Do so in denim wedges and a romper you can wear straight from the airplane to the festival. Traveling light is always best, so make sure you bring a carry on size roller suitcase. And don’t forget your sunglasses!

Coachella Bound: Getting Dressed
I read last week that Anna Dello Russo suggests lighting a candle, playing some music, and dancing to inspire your outfit choice at the start of the day. I’m hoping that’s just how I’ll start packing for Coachella, light a candle, throw on some Best Coast and get So. Cal-inspired to pack the perfect bag of Coachella-ready gear. Admittedly, this is my first Coachella experience (and first-ever trip to Southern California). I’m a Miami native living in SF, and while my survival instincts have meant layering up in the foggy Bay area, I think my S. Florida roots will serve me well here. Right now (with “When I’m With You” playing on repeat), I’m thinking sweet sundresses paired perfectly with my favorite new purchase — moccasin boots. Style wise, this is pretty much a culmination of all things I love. Of course, I love polish, but at Coachella, there’s little room for polish among the boho, breezy silhouettes and easy, undone, beachy-meets-desert vibe, so I’m going all out, taking the Fashion Survival Guide to heart, and sifting through my playlist while I select the weekend’s essentials, leaving my city wardrobe where it belongs, and taking along only what suits the music — thanks, Anna.
